For years, I was on autopilot. Same job. Same routine. No real progress.

Then life hit me hard—our cat, Simba, passed away. That was my wake-up call.

I asked myself: What am I actually doing with my life?

That’s when I turned to YouTube.

I wasn’t confident on camera.
I had zero teaching experience.
But I knew I needed to make a change.

Six months later:

• I started my own business
• Landed my first clients
• Got career-changing opportunities

Why? Because YouTube became my proof of work - a way for potential clients and employers to see what I could do before I ever spoke to them.

Even massive creators like Ali Abdaal followed this same path. He started with simple study videos, helping doctors pass exams. Before he knew it, he built a brand that let him walk away from his doctor career entirely.

And here’s the thing: You don’t need to have it all figured out from the start.

You just need to start.

Balancing a 9-to-5 and YouTube

I used to think I didn’t have time for YouTube.

Turns out, I did - I just wasn’t using it wisely.

Here’s what changed everything for me:

The A-to-B System

This is my framework for mapping out 100+ video ideas in minutes. No more sitting around wondering what to film.

I'm actually working on simplifying this into a spreadsheet, which will help make it sharable with you guys.

Parkinson’s Law

The law states that work expands to fill the time you give it.

So I've started setting shorter deadlines, which helped me post 4 videos in the shortest months of the year.

Time Tracking

I've now started tracking how long each task takes, which is helping me to find bottlenecks and speed up my workflow.

The more I optimise my time, the easier content creation becomes.

Less time scrambling for ideas. And a lot less stress.

But is all this effort even worth it if your channel isn’t growing?

Well, yes, as long as

You’re Focusing on Impact, Not Output

A massive mindset shift for me took place recently.

I realised I was getting worked up on the performance of my videos.

That's when I realised I wasn't defining performance in a healthy way.

I had to realise: performance isn’t just about views.

Let me ask you a quick question...

Would you rather have:

📌 200,000 views on a video with surface-level advice?​
📌 Or 2,000 views on a video that changes lives and builds a loyal audience?

I’d take the second one any day.

Over time, I've realised that some of my lowest-viewed videos led to life-changing opportunities.

My highest-performing videos just attracted more subscribers (and a nice bump in AdSense).

But still, my lower-performing videos have brought in more revenue than my entire AdSense combines.

That's when I understood that BIG views aren't the 'be all and end all'.

The one thing that matters is getting the right views.

So, here's how to overcome obsessing over BIG views, and worry less about your channel not growing:

1. Redefine what "growth" means for you → Subsribers, leads, sales, personal development?
2. Value every view → What about if you just get 100 views? That’s 100 real human beings you're impacting.
3. Compare against yourself → See where you are now compared to a year ago (or think where you'll be in a year compared to where you are now)

Still, there’s one big challenge all education YouTubers face: burning out.

Work Smarter, Not Harder

When I first started, I tried to do everything myself.

Scripting. Editing. Thumbnails. Research. Writing.

It drained me – and added 10-20+ extra hours per video.

Then I made one simple shift.

I started using AI tools.

I now use:

ChatGPT:

• Brainstorming
• Refining ideas
• Scripting
• Pretty much everything else in my YouTube Creation Workflow
